Interesting Facts
Through all of our travels sometimes we find some interesting but useless information or even personal experiences that you never forget. Have you ever noticed how some jack-a-lope can do something so stupid that makes you so mad, whether it is to you or someone else, you talk about it the whole trip? Then when you get to the track or destination you find yourself still talking about it? How about when you’re driving down the road, do you ever notice men always seem to look over as they are being passed or visa versa. But the women you pass are 95% of the time looking straight ahead with their eyes glued to the bumper in front of them. How about the states - Tennessee and Texas? They are the only states that you can have an open container and a gun rack. Yikes. Virginia seems to have the most personalized plates that I have seen. Oh and radar detectors are illegal. In Florida, it’s legal to make a u-turn at an intersection. Now here is an interesting law - in Pennsylvania, they have a law that for every mile traveled, you have to shoot a flare. Obviously nobody does it because it would take you forever to get anywhere and who has that many flares anyway. Ah, the state of South Carolina. South Carolina is the Palmetto State, otherwise known as a Palm Tree. But when you go through the state down I95, the only Palmettos you see are ones planted, other than that all you see are pines. New Jersey has Pork Roll (aka Taylored Ham) and has many street circles throughout the state. Speaking of circles, Massachusetts has a few, but they call them rotaries. Now for some useful information that I have learned. I have traveled all my life throughout the country whether it is for racing or personal vacation. The majority of the long trips take more than one day of driving, so usually we find a rest area or Wal-Mart. We have never had a problem until this year. Going to Missouri, we stopped at a rest area to get some shut eye before we got to the track. Some girl knocked on the window scaring the crap out of me. Luckily I didn’t get out of the car or put my window down too far. Whether she was talking gibberish or I was just so mad because I had just fallen asleep (which one it was who knows) but I didn’t fall for it. She just kept going on and on, not making sense and then in the end she wanted money for gas. But her story didn’t jive. So, I shut the window and blew her off. She had left and we then noticed the truck next to us had left to only to come back with her in it. We were later informed that she was probably trying to either rob us or scam us. This incident definitely freaked us out, but what’s the chance of it happening again in the same year…. Well, it did. This time it was in a Wal-Mart parking lot in the motor home. It was very early in the morning and everyone was sleeping but George. He was trying to be nice and let everyone sleep until there was a knock at the door. Again there was a girl, talking gibberish. She had some story about her car breaking down on Polaris Highway. Now, the funny thing is: A. Dave’s trailer has Polaris stickers ALL over it, and B. she said her car was in the Wal-Mart service department. But this Wal-Mart didn’t have one. Luckily I told George to shut the window and we started on our journey home. So when you’re traveling for whatever reason it might be, you can never be too careful. Make sure you lock your vehicles, windows, trailers, and compartments. Hide your purses, change and personal items out of sight. And the most important part, NEVER fall or make yourself vulnerable to these people. Have a safe adventure through all your travels. Ride hard, be safe, and have fun!
