Why do I race?

As many know, I have been in the racing scene for a very long time. I was talking with a dear friend Jerry Matthews (aka Xtremedad), and he got me thinking about why people race and the true reason why I race.

(Jerry & I in front of Honda of Houston - Fall of 2005)

With the sport growing more than ever, a lot of people lose the true meaning of why they started and what makes them keep coming back. Most racers start doing it because its fun, then money, greed, fame and frustration get in the way. I may not be a factory rider or a champion, but it’s the love for the sport that keeps me doing it. It could be muddy, dusty, or just perfect; I take the bad with the good and try to stay positive and have fun. Even with all my bad luck I keep coming back. It’s in my heart, it’s in my blood. Don’t get me wrong, I want that #1 just as much as any other person on the line. Jerry may not be a GNCC champion, but he made a great point! Racing is like a puzzle. Sometimes the pieces don’t always fit right, but once they do, it will all come together. With every race, I put a piece of the puzzle in place. In my heart, I know if I try my best and learn from my mistakes, in the end that’s all I can do. You can be fast as anything but careless and make tons of mistakes. Consistency and experience can win. Racing is not only physical, its also mental, and partial luck. There are some things that happen that are beyond anyone’s control. You have to take one step at a time, one race at a time. The season is still early, and the championship is still up for grabs. Who knows who will be the next champion in any class. Anything can happen. I’m thankful to have friends, family and sponsors behind me; I know I will make them proud!! It’s my job to give it my all and I am! It’s all part of the puzzle.

Ride hard, be safe, and have fun!
