The majority of most
kids wish they could be doctors, astronauts, or even a pro athlete.
As they grow older, their ideas become more realistic.
Some still become who they once wanted to be, others live there
lives as normal families do. As
I was little I didn’t play many sports, missed out on birthday parties,
and was even labeled a tomboy. I
was doing something that no girl would think about doing….Playin in the
mud. My life then and now
revolves around racing. I’ve
missed best friend’s weddings, funerals, special family events.
Heck, I even had to plan my wedding and honeymoon around racing.
But what is normal?? To
me I’m pretty normal when it comes to everyday life.
You know bills, laundry, a mortgage, and car payments.
When I walk into the grocery store nobody stares or talks about me
(or at least I hope not..lol) but when I’m at a racing event, I’m
somebody. It definitely
hasn’t’ been easy all these years being a female racer.
I’ve had people try to protest me saying “Girls can’t race
with guys” or try to say I’ve cheated just because I beat them.
You don’t see too much of it now because I’ve been around so
long, and other fast women have come into the picture.
It’s been a constant battle.
Little do they know, it gives me more of a reason to come back and
beat them again. “The will to win is overrated in athletics, because everyone wants to win. It’s the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.” – Bobby Knight Ride
