It’s
amazing how a single person can have such a huge positive impact on your
life. I don’t have any
children but recently I was given the opportunity to build a wonderful
relationship with one. For the
past month I have been working part-time as an aide on a school bus.
The bus transports three children to a special needs school.
My responsibilities were to an 8 year old boy named Vincent.
The first day I was very nervous.
I really didn’t know what to expect. I
knew that it would take a lot of patience, which I have plenty of so I was
at least somewhat prepared for what was ahead.
That morning he asked me to read to him.
Completely forgetting how easy I get car sick I went ahead and
read. The driver said I was
turning green but I held my ground. LOL
As
the days went on (with a daily dosage of dramamine), I worked my way
through a variety of children’s books.
I began to realize how lucky I was to have this little man enter
into my life. Every morning he
had a huge smile on his face and would show me that little things in life
are sometimes the greatest things! He
always has a positive attitude and shows so much appreciation to everyone
and everything that comes his way. When
I forgot to take my ‘daily dosage’ instead of having a hissy fit, he
would read to me, tell me stories or sing to me.
The wheels on the bus go round and round…
If someone as special as Vincent who has so many bumpy roads ahead
of him can have such a positive attitude, why can’t I?
This brings me to the big lesson he has taught me. Don’t
sweat the small stuff. There
are more important things in life to worry about.
Keep your chin up. There
is always a positive side to everything.
Even when you feel that you are at rock bottom, it could be worse.
When you find yourself getting mad at something or someone, take a
moment to think about what you are really mad about.
Is it worth getting upset about, maybe, maybe not?
Sometimes it’s just better to bite your tongue and walk away.
A lot of people take life too seriously.
Life’s short, live everyday to its fullest.
Enjoy living, put a smile on your face, and don’t forget to
laugh.
Ride
hard, be safe, and have fun!
