When people talk
about current Pros, they never really talk about them retiring or being
replaced by up and coming racers. Some
Pros want to settle down, others get injured, loose resources, and some
just loose the love for the sport. It’s
not just the pros. The average
Joe sometimes just drops off the face of the earth.
Luckily with today’s technology we have great websites full of
ATV enthusiasts to keep in touch. But
there comes a time when it is going to end.
It is not so easy
for women. The majority of the
top female racers including myself; are coming close to or are at the age
of child bearing years. For
some it’s an easy decision and for others it’s the hardest decision of
their life. Not only do you
have to stop racing, but you loose at least 1-2 race seasons (depending if
you plan it right). Even after
you have a child, to bounce back and be faster than your replacement is no
easy task. The commitment and
hours of training and conditioning would be twice as hard.
Not to mention raising a family and finding the time would be a
huge accomplishment in itself. And
they say men have it hard. Who will be the next
women’s champ when we are all gone? Could it be one of the many young
ladies in the youth programs such as Jodi or Jesi Stracham, or a daughter
of a champion?
Who will be the next pro? On another note,
look at GNCC Super Senior Class racer Johnny Gallagher Sr.
At the age of 59, he has 10 championships with 34 years of
experience. It even looks like
he still has a couple of years left in him. I guess what I’m
trying to say is don’t give up. You
might be the next champ! Ride hard, be safe,
and have fun!
