Road Trip Part II - The way home

Well, the ride home is a little different then the ride there. It really depends on the weather. It’s a mad dash to find the nearest tractor to get pulled out of the mud or to get to the nearest exit. Once we hit the road, finding the nearest convenient place to pull off and wait for our crew to get out is always a challenge. Not only do the phones start ringing, usually being friends from home or buddy's from the track, but the race stories begin. If someone is silent, they are usually unhappy with the way they performed and or finished. But the majority of the time it doesn't matter, we end up jabbering each others ears off no matter what happened. It’s funny how the race is only 2 hrs long and all three of us race at the same time but the stories are usually different and last for hours.

Ah, now its time for some grub. We tally up how many people we have and see who wants to go to the Outback Steak House. The close one is usually filled with the Borich Crew, so we hit the next one. Usually, we find one that isn't too close and not too far away so we can call ahead and not wait forever. Now, for anyone who is going to call ahead, here are some helpful hints. Try to ask for directions - just to make sure it’s the right one you want - we have made that mistake before. But the most important question is, if they can accommodate parking for motor homes and trailers. We pulled into a lot with 3 motor homes once…. we got into it, but we were so worried we weren't able to get out of it. We did eventually get out of the lot, thankfully, without any casualties. Once our bellies full, everyone always seems to want to take a nap and not drive. It’s unfortunate, but someone has to drive.

So, now we are finally on our way home. In the side view mirror comes a motor home. We can usually tell who's motor home it is, especially when its The Borich rig. We all hold on for dear life. I know he probably doesn't drive like this, but I swear he floors it when he sees our trailer and tries to go as fast as he can to pass us. As he passes us, our camper and trailer blows so hard, whoever is driving has white knuckles until he’s passed us. We always laugh about it. We also get passed and pass many other racers too. We try to figure out who it is before we pass or get passed, but usually we can’t until we see the driver or name on the trailer. Lol

The way to the race we usually try to drive straight through, but on the way home we never know. It really depends on how far the track is from home, what time we get out, if we stop for food, how tired we are and if we have something to do on Sunday. If we stop, we try to get as far as we can and find a Wal-Mart or rest area. We always say when we stop for the night we will watch a movie and have pop corn. But, majority of the time we are all so pooped we end up falling asleep (that’s if we aren’t already asleep lol).

Our voyage has almost ended and we are all hungry. Depending on what time we get back to George’s, we usually end our trip at the Cracker Barrel. We say our farewells, eat some grub, and make plans for the next adventure to the races!

Ride hard, be safe, and have fun!
